The African Union has donated various sums of money to the different affected regions. A donation of US$150,000 was made through the UNHCR Liaison Office to the African Union, to the affected populations at the Libya-Tunisia and Libya-Egypt borders in North Africa.

Another donation of US$ 125,000 was made to the Republic of Liberia and Sierra Leone through the respective UNHCR Branch Offices for the purpose of purchasing non-food items for Ivorian refugees who are displaced in these countries. This was made during emergency assessment missions by the Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees and Displaced Persons to Camps in these Countries. The Mission was led by the Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Mission assessed and evaluated the humanitarian situation of forced displacement on the ground and identified with the plight of those affected. Liberia, as the country experiencing a higher surge of inflow, will receive US$ 75,000 while Sierra Leone will receive US$ 50,000.

It was in view of the recent situations in North and West Africa that the AU recognized a humanitarian crisis which is of concern to all well-meaning persons. Consequently, the African Union in solidarity with the Governments and peoples affected has taken concrete action by providing requisite humanitarian assistance and relief, in order to alleviate the sufferings of those affected.
